40tude's New Expedition Challenge

We've recently added a new type of challenge to our events menu and in early 2018 our inaugural expedition comprised a mountaineering challenge: a winter ascent of Mount Toubkal, Northern Africa’s highest mountain.

A team of 26 novice mountaineers took up the challenge to trek to Toubkal in the beautiful snow-covered High Atlas Mountains, overcoming the effects of the high altitude and learning to use ice axes and crampons for this challenging 3-day winter expedition.  Led by our event partner Far Frontiers Expeditions Ltd, the team battled deep snow and bitter winds to reach the summit ridge of Mount Toubkal on the morning of Saturday 3rd February, at a height of 4,100 metres.

“It was an extraordinary challenge - truly unforgettable,” says 40tude’s Chair of Trustees Gordon Moore. “Our ascent of Toubkal was much harder and took longer than we had envisaged, not least due to the large amount of snow high on the mountain which we had to crawl through at times to reach the summit ridge. It was a heroic effort by all who took part and we’re very proud of everyone who braved our inaugural mountaineering challenge and raised so much for 40tude in so doing – simply an amazing achievement.”

This new challenge for 40tude has helped to raise both awareness of colon cancer and the importance of getting screened for this type of cancer - as well as vital funds to enable 40tude to continue to support inspirational research programmes targeted at the early detection and treatment of colon cancer.  We're delighted that over £68,000 has been raised so far as a result of the expedition team's amazing efforts.   Many congratulations and thank you to all who took part!

If you would be interested in joining our next expedition in early 2019, please let Kate know and we will send you all the details as soon as they are confirmed.
