40tude's 2017 Cycle Challenge: Destino Sagres

Congratulations to all our amazing cyclists who recently completed our seventh annual Cycle Challenge in Portugal, three and a half days of riding in scorching heat!

This year our peloton crossed the width of Portugal , starting near the border with Spain and finishing at Sagres, Europe’s most south westerly point.  From the rolling hills close to the border, we rode down to the hills and valleys and into Vilamoura. From here we headed back up into the hills to the spa town of Monchique and the region’s highest climb, and then rode on to Europe's most south-westerly point, Sagres. Our route was based around the Volta ao Algarve and offered the opportunity to take on the mighty Foia and Alto do Malhão climbs.  The PIE team provided support along the way: mechanical, physical and mental!

The team responded in style to our 'Ride in Pink Day', for which our cyclists are wearing an item of pink clothing to help us celebrate the level of female participants on this ride (making up a quarter of the peloton this year) and to remind us that colon cancer affects women just as much as men.

For more more of an insight into this year's ride please do watch our short film which can be found at 40tude's YouTube channel at:  https://youtu.be/ZmEq277WIEs - not least to see the wild imagination of the cyclists in their interpretation of an item of pink clothing!  Well done and thank you to everyone for all their incredible efforts on this 40tude fundraising challenge, helping us to continue to support inspiring projects to transform the early diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer, saving lives.

We welcome you warmly to join us for our 2018 cycle challenge - details to be announced shortly!

The team have responded in style to our 'Ride in Pink Day', on which we are wearing an item of pink clothing to help us celebrate the level of female participants on this ride (representing a quarter of the peloton this year) and to remind us that colon cancer affects women just as much as men. Well done everyone for your amazing efforts both in Portugal and in your fundraising, helping to cure colon cancer and saving lives.
