40tude's 2019 Cycle Challenge:

La Vuelta a España

We're delighted to announce that registration for 40tude's 2019 Cycle Challenge is now open!

Between 25th - 29th September 2019 we will be riding across southern Spain.  Follow in the tracks of the Greeks, Iberians, Carthaginians, Romans, Moors, French and the Spanish who have all conquered this region of Spain.  Our route from Antequera to stunning Granada will take us also to historic Cordoba (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and into the province of Jaén - Spain’s largest olive growing area - to the delightful small town of Alcala la Real, nestled below a medieval fortress.  This rural, varied route also provides the opportunity to climb Europe's highest road, the Pico de Veleta (an hors categorie climb) - it’s an ‘up and back’ route and summiting is not compulsory!

Tour detail:
Highlights of this tour - our most challenging to date - include:

  • Day 1: Antequera: famous for being situated at the foot of the Torcal National Park with its own Moorish Fortress (Alcazaba)

  • Day 2: Cordoba –the biggest city in Europe in the 10th Century and the capital of the Islamic Emirate. Its historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

  • Day 3: Alcala la Real –still offering the remains of its medieval fortress, ruined city walls, cathedral

  • Pico de Veleta (an hors categorie climb): our final challenge of the trip is to tackle Europe's highest road, Pico de Veleta (The Weather Vane), and stage finish in the 2009 Vuelta (an “up and back” route, summiting is not compulsory!)

  • Day 4 – destination Granada: probably the most famous of Spain’s 46 World Heritage Sites, the city contains the Alhambra and Generalife (NB. Entry to the Alhambra is not included.)

Fear not if you are not the most ambitious of cyclists however: our tour is a fully-guided and supported ride offering a choice of route options each day, specifically tailored to accommodate a range of cycling abilities including relatively new riders. The tour includes transport of bikes to Spain and back, excellent food and accommodation along the way, finish celebrations, and, of course, some fantastic cycling with remarkable group of 40tuders.

40tude's 2018 Cycle Challenge in Sardinia

Congratulations to all those who successfully completed our Sardinia Cycle Challenge. Over three and a half days from Wednesday 26th to Saturday 30th September our amazing peloton of 51 riders, led by our guides from pie cycling events, took on Sardinia’s hills and rural countryside. With over 13% of the island classified as mountainous and almost 70% of it classified as hilly, this lumpy ride was no mean challenge for our cyclists!

We’re delighted that they’ve raised over £67,000 as a result of their efforts - vital funds helping to support pioneering research programmes at St. Mark’s Hospital, targeted at the early diagnosis and tr'eatment of colon cancer. If you would like to show our brilliant team of cyclists your support, there’s still time to sponsor them at:  https://mydonate.bt.com/events/40tude2018sardiniacycle/455298 Thank you.

Click here to view our new film of our 2018 Sardinia Cycle Challenge - and share widely! Thank you to Jake Hatt of Free Bird Film for producing this film, showing the fantastic efforts of our 51 riders as they rode from the east side of the island to the west, via Sardinia’s central mountainous region.
