In July 2022 40tuder Andy Peterson completed his epic cycle between the four compass points of the UK, in memory of his father Iain and our former Ambassador, the rugby legend Tom Smith.

Showing true fortitude in some of the highest temperatures ever recorded last July, Andy rode a mammoth 2,223 miles in less than seven days, from the Lizard to Lowestoft to Dunnet Head, finishing at Ardnamurchan Point.

Along the way he received incredible support from 40tuders, the rugby community, his sponsors and countless others, and his efforts attracted national media coverage, helping to keep awareness of colon (bowel) cancer firmly on the map.

Thank you to everyone who supported Andy and generously made a donation to 40tude.  The £170,000 raised as a result of his heroic endeavour has enabled the new Tom Smith Research Fellowship to be established at St. Mark’s Hospital investigating the hereditary causes of colon cancer. Just eight months since its inception, this dedicated research post is making excellent progress in better understanding why some people with a family history of colon cancer develop this disease, while others don't.

To mark the first anniversary of Andy’s record-breaking achievement, we’re delighted to share with you this inspiring film: the full story of the Tom Smith 4 Points Ride.

Well done Andy, we are enormously proud of you!
