The film of our 2017 London SUP Marathon is now available to view!

Our 2017 London SUP Marathon was another great success on Saturday 10th June.  Some 50 paddlers braved gusty winds and scorching sunshine while paddling a marathon distance - 26 miles - of the River Thames, raising awareness and funds to help cure colon cancer along the way.  Thanks to the efforts of all those involved more than £20,000 has been raised so far, to help 40tude continue to support pioneering research projects targeted at the early diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer.

40tude's 2017 London Stand Up Paddleboard Marathon another great success!

Thank you to all those who took part in our fifth London Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Marathon on Saturday, 10th June 2017.

More than 50 paddlers successfully completed this year's SUP Marathon - a long distance mass paddle over 26 miles on the River Thames from Shepperton to Putney.  This year our paddlers overcame gusty winds and blistering sun along the course and helped to raise vital awareness and funds to help cure colon cancer.

Once again we'd like to thank our event partners, SUP specialist company Active360 and all our sponsors and supporters for their help in making this event a great success, in particular Gino's Cafe at Cowey Sale park in Walton, The Bell Inn at Hampton, Kingston Rowing Club, Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and Imperial College Boat Club. We owe our incredible volunteers and supporters a huge thank you also for their help once again throughout the day. A fantastic achievement - well done everyone!

Registration for our 2017 SUP Marathon is now open!

We're excited to announce that registration for the 2017 40tude London Stand-Up Paddleboard Marathon is now open!
Please come and join us on Saturday 10th June 2017 for our fifth annual 40tude London SUP Marathon. It's sure to be another fantastic adventure where great memories and new friends will be made, while raising vital funds to help cure colon cancer.
The 40tude London SUP Marathon is a long distance (approximately 26 miles) mass paddle on the River Thames from Shepperton to Putney. The course combines tidal and non-tidal sections of the river passing through three locks and under 14 bridges while taking in some of the river’s most picturesque sights, including Hampton Court, Syon House, Kew Gardens, Ham House and Richmond Hill. At the end of the day, we’ll celebrate our achievements with a party at the finish in Putney.

This year we’re offering registered teams the chance to race Red Paddle Co's four-person Dragon boards on the last stretch of the marathon from Hammersmith to Putney. Each Dragon board team will, we hope, include also a representative from St. Mark’s Hospital, whose inspiring projects you will be helping to support by taking part in this event. Dragon board racers are limited to four teams so act now to secure your place!

40tude's cyclists successfully complete our 2016 Cycle Challenge in Catalonia

Well done and thank you to all who successfully completed our Catalonia Cycle Challenge from 5th-9th October 2016.  This year our intrepid cyclists took on the hills of northern Spain, completing a three and a half day cycle ride from the mountains to the Mediterranean, following in the tyre tread of the Vuelta a España and taking on routes the pros frequently ride. Covering up to 160km a day with ascents of over 2500m, once again the 40tude peloton has helped to raise both awareness and funds - more than £45,000 so far - to help transform the treatment of colon cancer.

We're delighted that our new film of our Catalonia Cycle Challenge is now available to view - please take a look and if you can please do share the film widely to help us tell the 40tude story.

40tude Cyclists successfully complete the 2015 Rewind Cycle Challenge: Paris to London

Congratulations and thank you to all our wonderful cyclists who took part in our 2015 Rewind Cycle Challenge from 9th to 12th September 2015 - marking the occasion of 40tude's fifth birthday.

In celebration of all we have achieved in our first five years, Rewind was designed to be a reversal of the route of our very first ride, and so this year the peloton departed from the foot of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, riding up to 450km back to London over three days.

In addition to completing the challenge, our cyclists have been raising money once again to support the inspirational work into the improved treatment of colon cancer ongoing at St. Mark's Hospital in Harrow.  If you would like to make a donation, please visit

Missed out on the ride this year?  If you would be interested in taking part in our 2016 cycle challenge, please do contact Kate at for more details.

On the Road to Giro Italiano - March 2014

On Thursday 13 March, 18 brave 40tude supporters donned their Lycra and met at Psycle in Mortimer Street, London W1 to experience firsthand the new fitness workout that is taking London by storm.  With the lights turned low and a series of inspirational tunes pumping out loud, they all worked up quite a sweat under the able instruction of Tameka Small – a Nike athlete and martial arts expert.  Over the course of 45 minutes they spun, clapped, punched and stretched their way to a higher state of physical well being.

For those who have already committed totaking part in the 2014 Giro Italiano Challenge in October 2014, this was their first opportunity to get the legs pumping and the lungs burning - while sitting alongside those who will be their fellow participants!   It also gave them the chance to reconnect with some past masters of previous challenges.  It was particularly special to share the evening with Drs Michele Marshall and Warren Hyer from St Mark’s Hospital - both of whom were looking dangerously comfortable during the 45-minute Spin.

After all the exertions - and in true 40tude style - there was a post-exercise foray to local bar, Black & Blue, afterwards (and to slightly more familiar surroundings for many!) to catch their breath and connect with friends old and new.

With our grateful thanks to Colin Waggett - of 40tude fame as well as the mastermind behind Psycle - for hosting the evening and for making everyone feel so welcome.

Macquarie Group Foundation Support - January 2014

40tude curing colon cancer is incredibly fortunate to have the backing of some great sponsors – the latest being the Macquarie Group Foundation. Macquarie provides matched funding - up to £15,000 - to charities which Macquarie staff donate to, and 40tude curing colon cancer is absolutely delighted to have secured the continued support of the Macquarie Group Foundation and Macquarie employees during 2014.

Needless to say - we would love to hear from any other Company or Foundation who might be interested in supporting 40tude curing colon cancer.  If you'd like to discuss such opportunities, then please do contact either: Gordon Moore at: or  We'd be delighted to hear from you!

Family raises £2,345 at 40tude Charity Fundraising Evening - September 2013

The family of Les Twigger, who died in June 2013 of colon cancer, held a fundraising and awareness raising evening in his memory on the 13th September 2013 and raised a magnificent £2,345 for 40tude curing colon cancer.  Jenny Haywood and her children - Caron, Sarah, Mark and Marie - organised a night of musical entertainment performed by local Nuneaton artists as well as an auction and a raffle.  40tude has donated 100% of the proceeds to St Mark’s Hospital Foundation for their vital work into funding bowel cancer projects.  The evening also proved to be a great success from an awareness-raising perspective and two families have gone in for screening as a direct result of the efforts of the family - who are all too aware of how crucial it is to look out for symptoms and get in for screening early.  You can find more valuable information by visiting:

Gutless Kayaking Challenge - September / October 2013

In September and October 2013, Justin Hansen successfully kayaked 420 miles from Skipton in North Yorkshire to Bristol while connected to a life support system for 24 hours a day.  In undertaking this massive challenge, he created a new world record for an endurance trip surviving on artificial nutrition and raised a formidable £10,575.66 for St Mark's Hospital Foundation.  This latest achievement followed Justin's first kayaking challenge on the 1st October 2010 when Justin, together with a handful of friends, completed a 240-mile kayak adventure from Manchester to London when they raised £18,159.53 for St Mark's Hospital Foundation.

Why 'gutless'?
Due to Crohn's disease most of Justin's intestines have been removed. He needs at least 12 hours of intravenous nutrition every day to survive. For the Manchester to London trip, Justin was connected to his intravenous feed the entire time - 24 hours every day even whilst paddling. He carried out all his aseptic procedures in a little cabin at the back of a narrow boat.

Keep an eye on for the latest news about Justin's Gutless Kayaking adventures!
