We're excited to announce that registration for 40tude's 2018 Cycle Challenge is now open!
Over three and a half days from Wednesday 26th to Sunday 30th September 2018 we'll be heading to the island of Sardinia to bask in the sunshine, glory in the hills and luxuriate in the Mediterranean.
The Tour will follow the usual successful formula of three route options a day, each of different difficulties, guided riding, support vehicles, medics, transport of bikes to Sardinia and back, a minimum of three food and drink stops a day, post ride food, excellent evening meals and accommodation along the way, finish celebrations, and, of course amazing cycling in a fantastic peloton of 40tuders.
Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean. With over 13% of the island classified as mountainous and almost 70% of it classified as hilly, you will need to get your hill climbing legs ready for this lumpy ride.
40TUDE NEEDS YOU! We would really appreciate your support in helping us to grow our peloton in 2018 by actively encouraging someone else to join this ride with you. Please do take a moment to share the details of Sardinia 2018 with your friends, family and colleagues and let them know how enjoyable a 40tude cycle challenge can be. It’s vital that we have the opportunity to promote our message, advocating screening, more widely. One of our objectives in 2018 is to ensure that at least 25% of the participants on our events are new to 40tude.
To find out more and to book your place on this tour please follow the link below. Registration this year is direct with pie, our specialist cycle event partner, via their website where you can find more details about this ride and the registration form for Sardinia 2018.
We look forward to cycling with you in Sardinia.
Congratulations to all those who bravely took part recently in 40tude's new mountaineering challenge: a winter ascent of Mount Toubkal, Northern Africa’s highest mountain.
A team of 26 novice mountaineers took up the challenge to trek to Toubkal in the beautiful snow-covered High Atlas Mountains, overcoming the effects of the high altitude and learning to use ice axes and crampons for this challenging 3-day winter expedition. Led by our event partner Far Frontiers Expeditions Ltd, the team battled deep snow and bitter winds to reach the summit ridge of Mount Toubkal on the morning of Saturday 3rd February, at a height of 4,100 metres.
This new challenge for 40tude has helped to raise both awareness of colon cancer and the importance of getting screened for this type of cancer - as well as vital funds to enable 40tude to continue to support inspirational research programmes targeted at the early detection and treatment of colon cancer. We're delighted that £67,000 has been raised so far as a result of the expedition team's amazing efforts.
Many congratulations and thank you to all who took part!
Congratulations to Toni Ashby, who in October ran the Cabbage Patch 10 in memory of her friend Gavin Murray - who was also a great friend of 40tude - in her first ever race having only recently taking up running.
Says Toni, “I'm not (or wasn't) much of a runner but have always been amazed at the determination shown by others when they take part in the Marathon. My dad first ran the Marathon when he was 50 and this was a very proud day for our family. This year, I took the children to watch my good friend Ian complete his first marathon in a brilliant time, and that day I decided it was time I participated rather than watched.”
"I applied for a place in the Marathon ballot and have been increasing my running distance over the last few months. I was absolutely gutted when I didn't get a place for 2018 because I wanted to fund-raise for a charity that means a lot to a special family in our community."
The Cabbage Patch 10 was only planned to be a milestone race in Toni's training but she kindly decided to fund-raise via this race instead. So far she has raised more than £3,300 for 40tude – thank you Toni! If you would like to sponsor Toni please go to her fundraising page at: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/toniashby2
Congratulations to all our amazing cyclists who have recently completed our seventh annual Cycle Challenge in Portugal, three and a half days of riding in scorching heat!
This year our peloton crossed the width of Portugal , starting near the border with Spain and finishing at Sagres, Europe’s most south westerly point. From the rolling hills close to the border, we rode down to the hills and valleys and into Vilamoura. From here we headed back up into the hills to the spa town of Monchique and the region’s highest climb, and then ride to Europe's most south-westerly point, Sagres. Our route was based around the Volta ao Algarve and offered the opportunity to take on the mighty Foia and Alto do Malhão climbs.
Well done and thank you to everyone for all their incredible efforts on this 40tude fundraising challenge, helping us to continue to support inspiring projects to transform the early diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer, saving lives.
It's Day 3 of our seventh annual Cycle Challenge - this year we're crossing the width of Portugal, starting near the border with Spain and finishing at Sagres, Europe’s most south westerly point. Based on the Volta ao Algarve, our route yesterday took on the mighty Alto do Malhão, with Foia yet to come.
Today our cyclists have entered with their usual wonderful spirit into our new 'Ride in Pink' Day: a celebration of the many lady riders in the peloton this year and an important reminder also that colon cancer affects women as well as men. Well done everyone!
Our 2017 London SUP Marathon was another great success on Saturday 10th June. Some 50 paddlers braved gusty winds and scorching sunshine while paddling a marathon distance - 26 miles - of the River Thames, raising awareness and funds to help cure colon cancer along the way. Thanks to the efforts of all those involved more than £20,000 has been raised so far, to help 40tude continue to support pioneering research projects targeted at the early diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer.

Thank you to all those who took part in our fifth London Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Marathon on Saturday, 10th June 2017.
More than 50 paddlers successfully completed this year's SUP Marathon - a long distance mass paddle over 26 miles on the River Thames from Shepperton to Putney. This year our paddlers overcame gusty winds and blistering sun along the course and helped to raise vital awareness and funds to help cure colon cancer.
Once again we'd like to thank our event partners, SUP specialist company Active360 and all our sponsors and supporters for their help in making this event a great success, in particular Gino's Cafe at Cowey Sale park in Walton, The Bell Inn at Hampton, Kingston Rowing Club, Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and Imperial College Boat Club. We owe our incredible volunteers and supporters a huge thank you also for their help once again throughout the day. A fantastic achievement - well done everyone!
We're excited to announce that registration for the 2017 40tude London Stand-Up Paddleboard Marathon is now open!
Please come and join us on Saturday 10th June 2017 for our fifth annual 40tude London SUP Marathon. It's sure to be another fantastic adventure where great memories and new friends will be made, while raising vital funds to help cure colon cancer.
The 40tude London SUP Marathon is a long distance (approximately 26 miles) mass paddle on the River Thames from Shepperton to Putney. The course combines tidal and non-tidal sections of the river passing through three locks and under 14 bridges while taking in some of the river’s most picturesque sights, including Hampton Court, Syon House, Kew Gardens, Ham House and Richmond Hill. At the end of the day, we’ll celebrate our achievements with a party at the finish in Putney.
This year we’re offering registered teams the chance to race Red Paddle Co's four-person Dragon boards on the last stretch of the marathon from Hammersmith to Putney. Each Dragon board team will, we hope, include also a representative from St. Mark’s Hospital, whose inspiring projects you will be helping to support by taking part in this event. Dragon board racers are limited to four teams so act now to secure your place!
For more details about this fantastic 40tude challenge please see our Events page.
It's back for a fifth year! Our next London Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Marathon will be held on Saturday, 10h June 2017. Please keep this date in your diaries and help us spread the word about this fun but challenging paddle over a marathon distance on the River Thames.
Well done and thank you to all who successfully completed our Catalonia Cycle Challenge from 5th-9th October 2016. This year our intrepid cyclists took on the hills of northern Spain, completing a three and a half day cycle ride from the mountains to the Mediterranean, following in the tyre tread of the Vuelta a España and taking on routes the pros frequently ride. Covering up to 160km a day with ascents of over 2500m, once again the 40tude peloton has helped to raise both awareness and funds - more than £45,000 so far - to help transform the treatment of colon cancer.
Congratulations to all our amazing paddlers who completed 40tude's 4th London Stand Up Paddleboard Marathon on Saturday 18th June. Not only did they successfully paddle a marathon distance from Shepperton to Putney, they also helped to raise vital funds to help cure colon cancer.
We're delighted that thanks to their efforts the donations from this event are totalling more than £40,000 with more funds promised, enabling us to support the pioneering research programmes being carried out at St. Mark’s Hospital into the improved treatment of colon cancer.
40tude would like to extend its particular thanks to the event leaders, SUP specialist company Active360 and all our sponsors and supporters: LV=, Kings Park Capital, Apsley Speciality, OSTCFX, Popcorn Outdoor, Maxifuel, Alibi Drinks, Gino's Cafe at Cowey Sale, The Anglers pub at Walton, The Bell Inn at Hampton, Kingston Rowing Club, Brentford Community Sports Trust and Imperial Rowing Club, without whose kind support the organisation of this event would not be possible. We owe our incredible volunteers and supporters a huge thank you also for their part in making the day such a success.
Our 2016 Cycle Challenge will be taking us to northern Spain to tackle the hills of Catalonia. Over three and a half days from Wednesday 5th October to Sunday 9th October 2016 you will ride from the mountains to the Med, taking in stunning scenery, great Catalonian hospitality and iconic rides often cycled by the pros.
Suitable for cyclists of all abilities, this fully guided Challenge will remain long in the memory and is not to be missed. More details about the ride, choice of routes and a registration link will be made available soon; for now please do keep these dates safe in your diary.
It's back for a fourth year! Our next London Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) Marathon, which will be held on Saturday, 18th June 2016. Paddle a marathon distance - 26 miles - of the River Thames from Shepperton to Putney, taking in some picturesque sights along the way, including Hampton Court, Syon House, Kew Gardens and Richmond Hill - and help raise vital funds to support research into the improved diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer.
Places will be limited for this very popular event, which will be led once again by London-based SUP experts Active360 and raised more than £33,000 in 2015. If you are not already familiar with our SUP Marathon, take a look at our short film of our 2015 event produced by David James at On The Day Media, which shows how much fun can be had on the day:
